Before, in my kids’ words, “I have July off!” Well technically I’m being furloughed, but with current unemployment benefits, it’ll be a wash more or less. I will be able to be the parent I wish I could have been for the last three months because I won’t also be trying to work from home while parenting. “How do you do it?” I am asked. “Not well,” I answer honestly. It’s been exhausting.
And while I would prefer to remain employed, I am lucky and have one of the shortest furlough periods of anyone, so that’s lucky too. Enough about me.
Here, have a picture of my father’s most prized possession:
Not the car, not even close - although he does like it. It’s not a manual though. That canoe is a 17' cedar strip beauty that he built in the 70's and had used extensively ever since. This is probably the 15th different car it’s been on, and it will most certainly outlast this one too.
There it is, my sister there is probably 3? She’s now 40.
Anyway, I’m getting sidetracked. I’m looking forward to tomorrow afternoon.

I had 2 months off after a being laid off and it was truly wonderful. Sure, watching my savings slowly deplete was a bit nerve-wracking, but it was worth it. Hope you can relax and enjoy it.
That canoe is amazing!

I was laid off for a few months right after we bought our house and I spent the entire time doing punchlist things I’d never have done otherwise. And skiing a lot.
This summer with camps all cancelled, it’s good I can be with the kids. I might get something done too.
